Out of the Ordinary New Grade: 7 (1st year high school), English and Mathematics This unit focuses on the development of communication, mathematical, scientific and social skills using undiscovered unique places and structures in the community. In this unit, the students will assume the roles of tourism officers, environment officers and researchers as they work on the project. The students will then showcase the unique features of their community by creating a travel guide in a wiki site.
Water in the Community: Why is water important? Grade: 7 (1st year high school), Science The unit plan will discuss the properties of water, the water cycle and importance of water conservation. Working in groups, students will do different information and education campaign activities to educate the people in their community with regard to water conservation practices.
Rain, Rain, Go Away?: Just because we can, should we? Grade: 7 (1st year high school), Science Working in groups, this unit provide students with activities that help them understand the weather and the factors affecting it. As a culminating activity, students present and defend their stand on whether they favor weather modification or not.
Fiestas and the Culture They Show: What is essential in life? Grade: 8 (2nd year high school), Language Arts, English Town fiestas are one of the most celebrated occasions in the Philippines. In this unit, second year high school students assume the role of tourism staff tasked to promote Filipino culture among the youth by learning about the fiesta of a particular place. As students study a particular town fiesta, they are expected to note important details of the place, the people, and the different features of the celebration and try to find relationships in them in people’s ways of life. Students will showcase their learnings through different outputs such as multimedia presentations, publications and informative talks.
Twisting the Helix: Just because we can, should we? Grade: 8 (2nd year high school), Science This unit is designed with the central goal of improving students' science content knowledge and understanding of issues related to genetically modified food (GMF). A variety of learning activities are employed to help students locate appropriate information and resources concerning GMF and to critically evaluate the evidence they find. Ultimately, the students, as informed consumers, will decide for themselves whether GMF are beneficial or harmful.
Far More Than We Know: Why do we need language? Grade: 8 (2nd year high school), Language Arts, English Through various activities, students become more knowledgeable on the use and application of modifiers as they take on the role of local tourism staff with the aim of promoting the local tourist spots in the province of Laguna, Central Luzon, Philippines.
Plants - The Food Making Specialists: Why are plants special? Grade: 8 (2nd year high school), Science In this unit students learn about plants as the ultimate source of food for all living organisms. Using hands-on activities, students visualize where photosynthesis occurs and investigate how sunlight affects photosynthesis and the production of starch in plants.
