Grammar:
- Identify nouns in sentences
- Understand the functions that nouns provide in sentences
Speaking:
- Give information and express needs, opinions, feelings and attitudes explicitly and implicitly in informative talk
- Give information obtained from mass media: newspapers, radio, television, Internet
- Use audio-visual aids to highlight important points in an informative talk
Reading:
- Gather data using library resources consisting of general references, atlas, periodical index, and periodicals to locate information
- Extract and organize information from different text type
- Utilize varied reading strategies (covert dialogue with the writer and the sectional approach) to process information in a text
- Abstract information from the text by noting both explicit and implicit signals used by the writer to serve as directions on how the text is to be interpreted
Writing:
- Communicate thoughts, feelings, one’s needs in letters, journal entries, book reviews, interview write-ups, etc. using appropriate styles (formal and informal)
- Write reflections on learning experiences in diary and journal entries
Literature:
- Discover literature as a means of having a better understanding of man and the forces he has to contend with
- Discover through literature the symbiotic relationship between man and his environment and the need of the former to protect the latter
Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
At the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- Note, organize and analyze details as they gather information about the place, the people and the fiesta celebrations in the Philippines;
- Discuss among them on how fiesta celebrations depict the culture of the settlers;
- Appreciate one’s identity, being part of the Filipino culture;
- Express their opinions about town fiestas;
- Make judgment whether or not celebrating fiesta is a need;
- Promote Filipino culture among their fellow students;
- Appreciate being a team player in coming up with a group output;
- Identify nouns in sentences;
- Explain the function of each noun in a sentence;
- Use technology tools in presenting information and ideas during informative talks;
- Cite the references used in coming up developing the content of their brochures and multimedia presentations; and
- Appreciate the power of information technology as it aids them to a better learning.
