Targeted State Frameworks/Content Standards/Benchmarks
This topic, taken from the Tamilnadu State Board of Education of Science for class 9th and class 10th aims at:

• Promoting general awareness about AIDS and the impact of AIDS on the society
• To develop an understanding and develop skills to protect oneself from AIDS
• To encourage students to play an active role in fighting the dreadful disease and helps them to change the attitude towards AIDS victims
• To develop academic and social skills such as critical thinking, communicating effectively both in visual (usage of technology) and verbal forms, cooperating with others, taking initiatives and providing leadership in solving others’ problems
• To promote social temperament and responsibility among students
• Apply basic principles in finding solution to the AIDS related issues

Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
Students will:  

• Study and gather information on spread of HIV, AIDS
• Analyse the causes for the spread of HIV and AIDS
• Differentiate between myths and facts about AIDS
• Comprehend the knowledge and apply the same to develop skills on self-assertiveness and to develop positive attitudes towards sexuality
• Synthesise the information and findings to design a plan of action to create awareness as preventive measures for the commons and supportive environment for people living with AIDS
• Evaluate strategies of preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS by conducting awareness drive in your local area and for school child
• Equip oneself with preventive strategies by taking a right decision on issues related to sex
