Targeted State Frameworks/Content Standards/Benchmarks
As per the guidelines of Karnataka State Secondary Education Board syllabus for 9th Standard Science subjects:
- To enable children to develop understanding of ecological balance, biological importance of each species in an ecosystem.
- To enable children to develop fundamentals of microbiology, microbial structure, function, classification of microbes.
- To enable children to acquire knowledge on common diseases of humans, understand their occurrence, mode of transmission, symptoms, cure and preventive measures, growth, reproduction, nutritional requirement, useful and harmful microbes.
- To enable children to acquire knowledge on emerging fields in biology and its applications.
- To develop scientific temper and attitude by promoting the spirit of enquiry and following a rational and objective approach in analyzing and evaluating data and information as well as views and interpretations.
- To develop academic and social skills such as critical thinking, communicating effectively both in visual and verbal forms - cooperating with others, taking initiatives and providing leadership in solving others’ problems.
- To enable children to apply their knowledge to new situations and problems.
- To enable children to appreciate the usefulness of nature science and technology in life.
Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Use a microscope to examine and illustrate size, shape, and structure of sample microbes.
- Conduct research on how microbes move, where they live, and how they reproduce and their nutritional requirements.
- Analyze information about the microbial diseases, its causes, treatment and steps for controlling spreading of the diseases.
- Make a supported argument.
- Understand the cause and effect of epidemic and suggest recommendations to their community to take appropriate measures to prevent outbreak.
- Analyze the data collected from the field visits.
- Create an awareness campaign to spread scientific awareness among the villagers and make recommendations for healthy living conditions to reduce the incidence of microbial disease out break in their community.
