The Jungle Book: How do my surroundings affect me? Grade: 3-5, Social Science, Environmental Science The Jungle Book is a story concentrating upon the adventures of Mowgli; the boy raised by wolves, and his friends Bagheera, the panther, and Baloo, the bear. In this unit, students read Jungle Book and use the theme to understand the need for humans to live together as a society. They consider animals as friends and allies, but question their adequacy as parents or family. The students organize their thoughts in order to understand situations and construct arguments to drive home their opinion. They use the Visual Ranking Tool* to prioritize and rank the good things that Mowgli enjoys while living in the jungle. Using the Seeing Reason Tool*, they analyse the factors affecting Mowgli’s safety in jungle. Finally they use Showing Evidence Tool*, to collect evidences and decide whether Mowgli should live in the jungle or in the village.

First Aid: Are you always safe? Grade: 5-6, Science Young assistant doctors of emergency task force are given the task to prepare a first aid kit for their school. The assistant doctors prepare slide show to demonstrate its usage. They arrange for “Safety Awareness Day” to spread awareness about different precautions for emergencies and the steps to be followed before proper medication.
Eureka: How can science contribute in human progress? Grade: 5-8, Social Studies, English (Grammar), Science In this unit, students will learn how scientific inventions have changed the course of human activity, and thereby human history. Students investigate and rank scientific inventions using Visual Ranking Tool in order of its impact on human lives. As a culminating activity, they propose an invention to make our life better.

Back to School: How can I contribute to making a better tomorrow? Grade: 7, Environmental studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Social Studies Education is critical to each child’s ability to thrive in the knowledge economy. It is child’s right to have access to quality education. It is common to see children from impoverished back ground drop-out from schools and take up trivial jobs to support their family economy ticking. Students of seventh grade take up the role of ILO (International Labour Organisation) agents and study the drop-out problems in their school. They collect data from drop-out students, teachers, local panchayat leaders and parents. They analyse the data and identify the causes for school drop-out and make presentation to the village leaders and parents to understand the drop-out problem in their village. They evolve strategies to arrest drop-out rates in their village and blog their views to share their strategies with peers. Students organise awareness rally and persuade several families to shift their priorities and make sacrifices to allow their children to return to the classroom to gain the benefit of education.
The Return of the Dragon: How does the past influence the future? Grade: 6-8, Drama, Music The world today is a result of mergers of different cultures. Every country is influenced by its neighbouring countries. In this unit, the students will study about Chinese civilisation, one of the countries that have influenced our nation – India. Students will gain an insight about some Chinese inventions and how they have impacted us. In order to get first hand experience, the students will role play as curators who have been challenged to set up a Chinese museum model. As a culminating activity, students design a brochure on their museum and showcase their museum models to other students and teachers.
Waste Management: How can we make a difference? Grade: 6-8, Environment Education, Science The students as waste management experts join hands and contribute to making this earth a cleaner and healthier place to live in.
Eclipses - Hide and Seek in the Skies: How can we make a difference? Grade: 6-8, Geography, Science The students act as `social activists’ and question the superstitious practices related to eclipses and compare them to the scientific facts. |

The Energy Which Never Ends: How can I contribute to making a better tomorrow? Grade: 9-10, Environmental Studies, Mathematics It is the right time to realize and start the use of alternative sources of energy, especially renewable energy sources like solar energy and hydro energy.
In this unit, students effectively use solar energy for making a better world. They role play as members of Karnataka Energy Development Agency (KEDA), study different types of solar cookers and design a more efficient solar cooker to be used by the community. They prepare a multimedia presentation to share their research findings and a proposed solar cooker design with KEDA committee. They create a brochure and circulate among the community to promote their product. They also design a website to create awareness about energy crisis and the significance of solar energy among the community worldwide.
The Art of Growing: Are we crossing our limits? Grade: 9-10, Environmental Science Students take on the roles of agricultural officer, entomologist and social worker working as members of “Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development” with an objective to analyze the impact of use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on environment and suggest strategies to overcome adverse effects of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Before Topping Your Glass with H20: How do our decisions affect the quality of life? Grade: 9, Environmental Studies, Science, Social Science and Home Science An attempt by class 9 students to tackle at local level the issue of use of ground water for drinking purposes and also to support the global drive to conserve water.
Dangerous Living: How does the place we live in impact our life? Grade: 9-10, Social Studies, Science and Environmental Studies A disaster is the impact of a natural or man-made event that negatively affects life, property, livelihood or industry often resulting in permanent changes to human societies, ecosystems and environment. Students will become efficient disaster managers and understand the causes of landslides and recommend changes to avoid immediate and future disasters faced by the people and prepare a disaster management plan.
Red Ribbon: How do the choices we make now affect us later? Grade: 9, Social Science Students play a role of health officers representing WHO and study the grim situation of AIDS in Tamilnadu. They collect information, analyze and submit an action plan to arrest the fast spread ofAIDS in Tamilnadu, South India, to the State Health Minister and WHO.
Microbes - Invisible Invaders, Amazing Allies: Can our friends be our foes? Grade: 9-10, Science Microbes are fascinating and intriguing organisms. They are miniscule powerhouses that have worldwide impact when they cause disease, improve health, and sustain ecosystems. In this unit, students as junior microbiologists investigate the role microbes play in our lives and the world around us. They use the Showing Evidence Tool*, to dig deeper into understanding whether the microbes are a boon or a bane. Again using the Seeing Reason Tool* they study the cause and effect of microbial diseases and epidemic outbreak. The students also make the community aware about the precautions against microbial diseases and suggest strategies to improve hygienic living conditions in the community.

Curb the Crab of Cancer: How can we make a difference? Grade: 10, Science Students as Cancer Society volunteers conduct an in depth study about cancer, interview Oncologists to get an insight about the causes and preventive measures. They interview patients to collect first hand information about the nature of patients suffering from cancer. They perform skits and create flyers to spread awareness about cancer and suggest preventive measures. Students reach out to the global community by wiki to spread awareness about cancer and share their learning of the project.

Investment Tactics : What makes our life secure? Grade: 11-12, Economics, Mathematics Students role play as financial planners and plan the investment portfolio of their client. They use Seeing Reason Tool* to analyse the factors that influence savings and its impact on our life style. They use Visual Ranking Tool* to rank the investment options considering the family’s financial goals. Students prepare a presentation to present their proposed investment options for the client.

Marketing Mantra : What influences our choices? Grade: 11-12, Commerce, Mathematics Students, as young market researchers, develop business acumen by designing a marketing strategy for some Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) facing a decline in demand. They prioritize the channels of distribution and debate differences using the Visual Ranking Tool*. They use Seeing Reason Tool* to model their understanding of various intricacies of deciding the product’s price. The students juggle the four decisive P’s - Price, Product, Promotion and Place of products to hit upon the best possible combination of marketing mix.
