Project Description: Pedal Power
The goal of this project is for you to express your math knowledge in an applied way. You demonstrate your ability to use:
  • Functions, including domain, range, and composition
  • Formulas in real situations
  • Presentation slideshows

After completing a set of exercises, you work with a partner to create a slideshow presentation for your class.

Step 1
Complete the project exercises. Verify your completed exercises as we go over them in class. Make certain your thinking is accurate, because you may use some of the formulas or explanations in your presentation.

Step 2
Select the topic for your slideshow presentation. Use the slideshow presentation to help you explain why a formula makes sense or why the results are important, or to demonstrate an investigation of the effects of variables on the output of a formula. Your topic may be a variation of one of the exercises you completed, or you may create your own problem to investigate.

Step 3
Discuss your topic with your teacher and get approval before beginning your research.

Step 4
Research your topic. You may use the Internet, books, magazines, and other sources to aid in your research but remember to document all sources.

Step 5
Create your rough draft. Refer to the scoring guide as a means for guiding your work. After you complete your research, make a storyboard for your slideshow presentation. Get your teacher’s approval before continuing.

Step 6
Create your final presentation. Present your final product to the class and the teacher for assessment.
